Sensei
Rene Gassner was born and raised in the Principality of Liechtenstein.
Sensei Rene Gassner has 29 years of martial arts experience and is
currently holding a sixth degree black belt in Kyokushin Jitsu, a
fourth degree black belt in Kyokushinkai karate and a fifth degree
black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. He took his first steps in martial arts at the
age of five when his father took him to Judo classes. Later on he
joined the local Kyokushinkai Club and has been training martial arts
ever since.
From the age of 17 on Sensei Gassner competed at a
national and international level in kumite as well as in kata. Along
with various national victories, Sensei Gassner has won the Swiss-cup
in 1987 and 1988. He also finished 7th place at the 1990 European kata
championship.
In 1991, Sensei Gassner joined the Liechtenstein
State Police Department and served for seven years. In this time,
Sensei Gassner instructed police officers and security guards of one of
the major security companies in Kyokushinkai Karate and Jiu-Jitsu. The
same year he got certified fitness instructor of the IFBB. From
1994 to 1997, Sensei Gassner was assistant-instructor for the budo
school "HARU" in Chur, Switzerland, which is owned and operated by
Charlie Lenz. During this time he also was fortunate to train with
Sensei Eduard Gabathuler, 5th Dan, Kyokushinkai head-instructor for the
Budo-School "HARU".
In 1997, Shihan Gassner decided to quit
his job as a police officer. He earned a degree as a massage therapist
and then moved from Europe to the United States to earn his college
degree.
While staying in South Florida, Sensei Gassner was
teaching Kyokushinkai Karate for the South Florida Kyokushinkai-kan in
Tamarac. In
may 2000 Shihan Gassner moved to Marietta, Georgia where he and his
friend Sempai Juan Luis Medina founded the LIFE UNIVERSITY KYOKUSHINKAI
KARATE CLUB.
In September 2002 Shihan Gassner moved to St.Louis,
Missouri and earned his Ph.D. in Health Science. Currently, Sensei
Gassner is completing his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Logan
College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, Missouri.
In January
2003, Shihan Gassner founded the KYOKUSHIN JITSU Martial Arts System
based on a combination of Kyokushinkai Karate and Ju Jitsu. The new
style is a recognized and registered martial art with the United States
Martial Art Association and Sensei Gassner was awarded a sixth degree
black belt and the title of Soke. Along with his master instructor
certification Sensei Gassner also earned his master examiner
certification from the United States Martial Art Association.
